anyone been brave enough to spend £20.00 on the Karrimor branded 'trail' shoes that Sports Direct (same company) are selling?

No. I have got Karrimor capris and gloves. They're usable but pretty poor quality. I'll need some convincing to buy their shoes.

Not personally, but a club mate has. He seems to get by in them on Thursday nights well enough. However they where his first shoes for Fell Running, and I'd define Thursday nights as hilly trail running than actual Fell.

so size wise the Kanadias are a it smaller? I've got 8's in Walshs and Montrails and Asics but my normal street shoes are 7/7.5

Morning - yep I'm 7 in street shoes, 8 in most running shoes, 7.5 seemed OK in Cheviots. Definitely try 'em on if you can though, lots of people reckon you need a bigger than normal size in Kanadias although I didn't find this to be the case recently.

Haven't tried Sportdirect's own brand trail shoes... they look vaguely interesting but with Kanadia's so cheap and well proven, I didn't risk it!

I find I have to go bigger with any Adidas. Usually to the point where the seem to jump from too small, to too big. I guess I just don't have Adidas feet. Which is a shame, as now the Cheviots seem to be overkill to be used as a Roclite 295 replacement, the Kanadias/XT 4s would seem to be ideal candidates.

it's more cushioning than grip i'm after as I've always got the walshs and highlanders for the sticky stuff.

Yes. They're the worst pair of shoes I've ever owned. Just about usuable on hard,dry trails. But anything else, forget it. Very uncomfortable too

To bring it back to the Cheviot2... I retired my Cheviot 1s recently after 57 runs (about 50p per run) as the upper on the R shoe split. I've now started using the Cheviot 2 and initial impression is that they are a much better shoe. Same ace grip but in a more snug, more comfortable, and lighter shoe. Unlike the mark 1 I've found myself thinking "I could race in these" - although "racing" is no longer the blistering thrash it was in my Walsh PB racer days

Time will tell how they hold up but after 7 runs I find myself more and more impressed. :thumbup:

The uppers on my mk1 separated from the soles today at around the 450mile mark.
