I was trying to say that getting caught in a deluge on Blea Moor sounds horrendous. And at Blea Moor you do have a long way to go on the Fellsman. Maybe I should make more use of smileys to get my tone across:

I remember it well. I was sitting in my car at Redshaw knowing that I would get drenched just walking from there to the checkpoint tent. I remember feeling glad that I wasn't one of the poor souls out there walking or running.

I remember it well too, running to survive across the big boggy valley up to Blea Moor and back down to the woods, where thankfully the onslaught ceased. Strangely enough, 2009 was my all-time PB year.

I'm a first timer - is it normal to be weighing a malt loaf to make sure it comes in at 300g? And does it count as emergency food (surely it does if marzipan does?) and are other first timers nervous/excited in equalish measure about the weekend? :w00t:

At the other end,the quad bike track goes past several posts, the 1:25 map shows two small tarns, would the middle tongue check point be between third post and larger of the two tarns on the 600 contour line?Could be interesting in the clag!!
Any thoughts on this would be great.
To all fellow bog trotters, have good one

It skirts around some of the initial bog and you rejoin the fence -all far more runnable than the shorter route through the bog.

Emergency food is just what it says on the tin: food that you set aside for an emergency. I would assume that anything will do. High density of calories is good in terms of not taking up too much space in your rucksack. It'll be slabs of chocolate or peanut M&Ms for me as then I can enjoy eating it on the train home on Sunday.

I like your thinking - malt loaf will be just the thing for me on the journey home (if I've got the energy to open the wrapper!)

Not a first timer, but much excitement in my household. Mainly because we can recycle our massive pile of Tetra Pak cartons at Ingleton before the start.

A Soreen marked "I'm bigger" is only about 270g. A normal one is smaller still.
