Another exciting day out

Indeed. Quite a low-key event this, i'd have brought my camera along if it weren't for the fact i was expecting a 100+ field.
Nice to get involved with some summit marshalling and pick up some route tips off Mike Robinson, it was astonishing how many runners went too far left off the summit dispite totally clear conditions. I had always anticipated this to be a follow-the-path kind of route without a great deal of route choice or free running; i was delighted to see that most of the good lines didn't involve the path at all and that the route was fraught with crags and potentially bad lines. Definitely on my to-do list.
these pics (by Paul Dobson I think) are ace!

On arriving at registration and seeing Scoffers hand drawn race route on what looked like wall paper lining I knew this race was gonna be fell racing in it's purist form. The setting was perfect....down the Borrowdale valley surround by mountains, we even had Archers practicing their arrows on the start field (thankfully no stray arrows came our way). The climb up is steady away until the final summit push which is hands on pull yourself up the rock face terrain, I bet Paul Corny flew up this section with his climbing skills. The descent is one of the best I've encountered on any race, brilliant fast running over spongy grass if you get the correct line. In bad weather I can imagine people ending up here, there and everywhere. What amazes me is only 31 people turned up for what is one of the best AS races in the calendar, a proper fell race in every sense. Thanks to Scoffer and all his helpers.
What a brilliant race hey Daz. So wish i hadn't gone wrong and had that descent nailed correctly as it was awesome, so fast...not so fast after fairfield race the day before but you put me to shame with your exploits on OCT. Crazy. Also shocked with such a small field but made for a nice race anyway. Some famous faces from fell racings past knocking about too. Cool.
Good to see you Chris, your descending through the woods was well impressive. After the race Billy Bland was measuring the fat content of Phil Winskil and myself by pinching our arms. We both need to lose weight according to Billy.... When a legend speaks you listen, so I'm afraid it's salad all the way.
Cheers Daz, not as impressive as your climbing after 37 miles in the legs. Brilliant. Love that billy was doing that, ha. Tell you what i would be ashamed of showing him my gut at the moment. Half a stone gain since this time last year. Back on the salad indeed darren. :-) Good running mate. Hopefully catch up with yous at another race soon.
