I was finishing the Barbondale Round LDWA event and you were the ONLY person except marshalls that I saw all day!!
Fair few people up and around Skiddaw Friday and Saturday (3rd and 4th May) Anyone on here? Young guy going up Gt Calva looked as if he was going ok!? Much better than me at any rate! Two guys on Friday coming off Skiddaw passed the car park, and a young and older guy (older with a hat/balaclave on his heed!...and a dog on a lead)heading up were particularly noticable.
I'll need to check the farm name, but I got 'buzzed' by a large bird of prey around the Howgills as I dropped off the Calf a few years ago. I got a good look at it and had the feeling, having checked my 'bird spotter' books, that it was potentially a Goshawk!? Seemed a long shot but the look, behaviour etc matched pretty close. There was a pair with a smaller brown bird on a fence. It was a larger grey 'buzzed' me! I spoke to the farmer and he did say it was a Buzzard but wasn't really too sure.Originally Posted by wheezing donkey
Never done any of the Howgill races HT, but it's a fabuluous range of hills to trot around, day or night. One of our favourite summer evening runs is to park by Howgill parish church ( Chapel Beck ) and run a circuit of Birk Haw, Swarth Greaves, Bram Rigg, Bram Rigg Top, The Calf, White Fell Head, White Fell then descend by Castley and Gateside farms and hopefully get 'buzzed' by the notorious 'Howgill buzzard'
