My family and me are back form our hols in Hay now, the race was fantastic many thanks to the team and seamless organising as far as I could see. I really enjoyed having to put to use my limited map reading skills to test and learning from my mistakes! The lady on the pony trek advised me to use the sheep trails to avoid the (very) flatulant horses, so when the trail petered out instinct told me to take a bearing and my useless grey matter ignored it. Great to chat with you all and thanks to Al for letting my nippers start the race.

Jez, was a pleasure to meet you and race with you. Sorry I overhauled you at Hay Bluff on the run-in, I had my mind set on a sub 5:30 ( I think I muttered as much as I crept past). I would be really interested for you to PM me how you and your family got on in Hay, with camping, things to do, etc. Because if (when!) I return next year I will likely make a family occasion of it - and my kids are similar age to yours. I will PM you my email. Cheers.

Hi OB1 no worries great to meet you, I need to have a serious word with my self as so often I get close to the end of a race and start relaxing, not to take anything away from you and the other chap (John or puffing billy?) who looked strong passing. PM sent but in short plenty to do in the area, Radnors camp site very good as was the steam rally and kàyaking but not many children about which makes parenting a bit harder

Intrigued to see that Mike Tyrie (FRA Gen Sec) is now revisiting the topic of trackers in long races.....see article in latest FellRunner mag. I've been in touch with him to let him know how we got on 11 years ago. One might hope that the technology has improved and got cheaper and also that the idea might be be better received this time around. Re-reading the comments in this thread, it seems that those taking part gave it a resounding thumbs up. That was not replicated in some quarters....say no more.

Last time i raced wearing a tracker, i crossed the line and fell into a heap, only to be immediately critiqued on my poor choice of line up the final climb, which had been viewed on laptop by the RO and various other passers-by

(i should add that i won the race as well)

Was that positive or negative experience? Mike was interested to know if we had people dot-watching on our race. We were in a classroom so only the race team saw....but we did notice some funny lines! Your sins are there for some to see.

Overall it was a positive experience..... in fact it didn't really make any difference as a racer.... if it helps the RO's i'm all for it.
