If I want to up my mileage a bit I could get up early like 5.30am and do an easy 5 miler before getting home, showered and off to work. What I want to know is does anyone else do this and would it be of more/less benefit than staying in bed and resting. Are they just junk miles?

When I was a roadrunner and doing 100 miles a week I ran 6 miles every weekday at 6.20am.
Often in the dark. I then did another run, session or race in the evening. It certainly worked for me.
It might be tough when you start but you will soon get into a routine.
