Carlos In 1981 five clubs (United, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal & Spurs) threatened to form a breakaway league unless the other clubs agreed to their proposal to stop sharing gate receipts and allow the home team to keep them all. In 1992, the same five clubs pushed for the formation of the Premier League and took the TV money (which had previously been shared with the lower divisions) all for themselves. It was the greedy 5 who set the agenda.

was it that early, I would have said 83ish. I'm sure city would have had a vote too and I'd like to see which way they did. Five clubs couldn't force it through if 87 said no.

Anyway after that I was pissed off with united and stopped going for many years because I believed that for us to stay at the top we need smaller clubs to keep producing top players for them to sell and survive. I went to watch town a few times then headingley rugby union club. Stopped watching them when they joined with roundhay and become Leeds. Never watch owt that's called Leeds in the title.
