Running marathons on the road, in my opinion, can be much tougher because once you have committed yourself to a pace, by the time you realise you've started too quick it's usually too late to do anything about it. All you can do is try and somehow survive to the end.
I did London and the skyline last year and LOndon was far harder and left me more tired afterwards. The pounding from the roads ahen running for that long at pace is just so tough to bear - you do get some respite on the fells I think.

Was happy with my London time but Skyline was far more satisfying though and am really looking forward to this year's run.
