Have a chat with Mr P who is off tonight to flag the route in the dark in gale force winds and blizzards. Maybe he'll nail your sledge to the cairn so it doesn't blow away before Sunday.

Is the flag bag still on the cairn from the down hill race?
From my back window present conditions on Howgills - dark and howling wind, no snow and no sign of Mr P.
I can give you weather update as we get into weekend if you like but Mr P says the race will be on if you can get there (no points if you don't).

Ah. Found out the problem. We're too popular and have reached our monthly data transfer limit with a day to go. Tomorrows a new month so should be back up again (I hope).

Saturday morning report from my back window: Howgills covered in snow but only about 20cm deep. Sun shining. Main roads clear, minor roads covered and slippy. Good day for sledging.

Well done everyone today. To Billy Shaun and Tom who flagged the route on Thursday night in the dark. Yvonne & Sue for the timekeeping, and George, Richard, Mike & Dave for the car parking. Plus well done everyone who ran in those bitter conditions. Full results to follow; but here's a start.

U12 boys - John Stone (Wharfe) Phil Done (Keighley) James Hall (Bingley)
U12 girls - Megan Stuart (Helm) Lorna Nunwick (Helm) Lauren Appleyard (Helm)
U14 boys - James Knox (Helm) Rory Addison (Helm) Theo Messenger Jones (Broughton)
U14 girls - Robin Goodfellow (Dallam) Jane Gill (Dallam) Lauren Munro Bennett (Helm)
U17 Boys - Alex Till (Dallam) Ashley Kaye (Rossendale) Matthew Fretwell (Settle)
U17 Girls - Melanie Hyder (Helm) Brooke Van Hindsbergh (Sedbergh) Nicola Jackson (Preston)
Seniors - Alastair Dunn (Helm) Tim Austin (Ambleside) Tom Addison (Helm)
Ladies - Natalie White (Bingley) Sharon Taylor (Bingley) Hazel Robinson (u/a)

Thanks also to all of you who I asked to leave your dogs in the car and did so. Its with your cooperation that we can keep such a brilliant race in the calendar.

    What a day!
No snow but I was almost blown off my feet as we ran (sorry staggered) along to the top. Can't recall racing in winds that strong.
Well run Harry, you're going well mate.
    Sledges still unused.

Hear Hear! What a fine day and it was a little windy wasn't it!

I never thought it could be quite so difficult just walking along the flat bit at the top of first climb, I had to walk cos I knew that if at any stage both feet were off the ground I'd be blown away

Cracking race chaps -many thanks! See you all at Helm Hill (...any chance of ordered a little less wind that day...?)
