And because it is elected, we all have a say in changing it if we don't like the way they are using our love/money.

We have a need to modulate our tribal tendancies through a proxy-led Governing body. And if you don't believe how important that is, you only need to look at what happened in Yugoslavia when the common bond of governance was broken between several very large tribes.

So you can blither away all you like about paying taxes etc. Because anything has to be better than mourning the fact that a neighbouring tribe came in, raped and murdered your women-folk, slaughtered your men-folk and destroyed your property. This is why we have 'society' and 'government'.
Tribal warfare! what the hell do you thinks happening to our country at the moment. We've got a legalised civil war going on.Pressure group warfare;each group trying to destroy the other,in the hope of gaining control of the legislature. When they do, they'll force their convictions on everyone else.

If you don't think Yugoslavia can happen here, you'd better look and think again!

Rodders they always give life boat scenarios, to justify the wholesale looting in the welfare state. If physicist Steven Hawkins can make a living without the use of his body, others not as badly off can as well.

My whole point is that I'm acutely aware that a Yugoslavia could happen here, or anywhere else for that matter. It's only by maintaining a rule of law and government that we don't descend into mass slaughter.
Governing is not easy. Everyone wants their say. Every little pressure group wants to hold sway, often in a completely opposite way to the mute masses (just like our own little group who wanted to leave UKA...vastly outvoted when it went to the people. Well done FRA committee who governed the situation well...even if they did sway the vote!).

The art is to understand and work with the dynamic tensions, uphold the law, maintain as close to a fair democracy as possible and to pursue a humanistic course. But, if I understand your position correctly, that is anathema to you.

I really, really didn't want to post on this thread... To some degree Yugoslavia has already happened in the UK with the devolution of Scotland and Wales. We did it without a civil war ruining the country though.

Civil war will never happen in this country, too many pacifists and do-gooders, we are far to accepting of who we let in. Don't get me wrong, being accepting of others is an admirable trait, but are the people we let in of the same character. Make yourself a doormat and people will walk all over you. I want my children to grow up in a peace loving, racist free country as i'm sure most everyone else does.

Wheeze I understand.I want a system of individual rights, so we can act on our own judgement, and of course allow others to do the same.

[QUOTE=christopher leigh;104414]So your motto is 'one Mans needs another Mans chains?']

No CL my motto is "love thy neighbour as thyself" which means the same. That's why Rodders is so uncomfortable and inarticulate about the plight of Trimm's mate. Something inside him, pity, sympathy, conscience, whatever you might want to call it makes him want to help and he doesn't like it because it's a feeling you can't shake off; like chains. We humans are bound to each other, "No man is an island entire unto himself.." (Think that's right)
Sometimes there's a Tsunami, drought, civil war, old people dying of hypothermia, child abuse etc etc story on the news and I think, "Not again!" and I can't stand it that I should feel responsible and I turn it off and say I pay into Oxfam already or I pay a fortune in taxes. But the feeling won't go away. So we have to do something and it's never enough. It's a bloody nuisance but that's just the way we are.

Actually my motto is: "I am not number! I am a free man!" Patrick McGoohan circa 1967.

Merrylegs it's already happening, although legally. The legal system is being stacked in the favour of certain people, at the expense of everyone else.
