G.D. & Wheeze, absolutely spot on, with your last posts!!
All that is required for evil to succeed, is that good men do nothing.

We're both using the same debating technique then. Trying to present an uncomfortable scenario to put each other on the spot. Alright I probably wouldn't love a person who murdered my family. I would probably want to do the same as you: hunt him down with a Bowie knife or something. More realistically though, and getting back to how this debate started, my taxes would hopefully contribute to his being caught by the police and being kept in prison for a very long time by the prison service.
The vikings on Iceland 1000 years ago used to sort things out mano y mano (think that's right ) in a free, pioneering landscape; if you read the sagas it's surprising how much they sound like reports from Bosnia. They had no king, nobody to tell them what to do. But they got sick of it and formed a parliament in pre christian times. People can't live the way you espouse for long. Either they organise themselves with laws and taxes and so forth or some big guy comes along and rips them off or they waste their lives ripping each other off.
Guick your misrepresenting my position.Your sinking fast, and in an attempt to hang on, your ascribing to me points of view I never made.

Anybody whos been following this thread knows my position, in regard to government, taxes, freedom etc.

The truth is society has organised itself with laws and taxes(forced) so the big guy(government) can come along and rip them off, and pressure groups waste their lives ripping each other off.

I agree with most of that apart from selflessness, and the putting of scroungers and fatcats(business men)in the same package deal.

I don't consider business men evil.Unless they make their money by ripping people off, or by political pull. All honest business men are responsible for the wealth creation in this country, we should say thankyou to them, instead of proposing to tax them out of existence.

As a first aider your duty would be to the person most in need not to the person you like the most.
Those people walking past the dying on the South Col they're not mountaineers mate.
The choice they make is between being human and being something less.
John Lennon said "Imagine" too. He didn't claim to be a Christian.
Guick if my wife was next to you with a broken leg, and you had two broken legs, my priority would be my wife.To say I should put you first, sums up the evil of the altruist position.

Many of Those mountaineers on Everest are just like you.People who believe that others come first. It's amazing how the flaws in ones moral code become exposed on the worlds highest mountain!

Pete Bland's a business man. He seems ok. Who said business men are evil? Hats off to the lads and lasses who provide us with jobs and useful things to buy.
What seems to make your blood boil is the fact that scroungers are ripping off benefits and laughing at us tax payers. Again what's controversial about that? I drive to work in an L reg Golf and I see benefit recipients driving around in people carriers and, yes, they are laughing at me. I get upset just like you. Maybe not quite as much.
But then you come out with stuff about altruism being evil and the whole welfare state needing to be dismantled and the Good Samaritan was a b*stard and so on. Where's that coming from? What do you call that philosophy?
Sinking? It doesn't feel like it.

I call it rational self interest.Anyone on here interested in finding out more, can go onto Amazon and buy Ayn Rand's 'The virtue of selfishness,' and 'Capitalism the unknown ideal.' They are about £5 each.
