It's not that bad Actually can't remember anything about Hardknott pass, must be a mental block. Seriously though, start off nice and steady and you'll be fine. I went off too fast and died on Whinlatter pass, the rest of it was a drunken blur including a spectacular attack of cramp getting out of the car at services on the M6, much to everyone's amusment

    Re: Quiet Around Here

I've been doing long cycle rides on a sunday 70 miles plus nearer 80, starting to increase it more and more hopefully. Been on the bike all winter really in all weather so getting there and hoping I'll be ok?

Should do the Cheshire Sportif but the online entry has closed already (says march 21st on the site) but the organiser says take my bike down to enter on the day if there are any places. I'd have entered early but thought I couldn't get there and now can! typical!!

just hoping the gears and more importantly the legs will see me over the hills!

I've a standard double - none of that triple stuff!!

    Re: Quiet Around Here

I did it on a double 39-27 lowest gear. Got off and pushed on parts of Hardknott but got up everything else. Been doing a lot of singlespeeding 42-18 gearing and feel a lot stronger for it. We shall see come April. Longest ride i did was 70miles last year before it, just tried to include loads of hills. Don't be fooled into thinking Wrynose is the last climb. There's a nasty little climb after it 25% before you drop back into Great Langdale, save some for that

Any link to that one Ady??? I've a free day that day and already pencilled in a long ride in the lakes.....

merry....my rear cassette is on a 27 low gear ratio.....all I'm used to really so it's gonna have to do!!!

Done some hilly rides but probably not hilly enough the long ones have been fairly flat just to get used to sitting on the saddle all day but have done some shorter hilly ones, did a ride in January with 3 others and managed not to get dropped so that was quite promising but it's not like I'm in it to win it just like being on my bike!!

That's what its all about, enjoying it. Always helps going out with people who are faster than you, did the Manchester 100 last year with two club cyclists, just dropped me in the last 2 miles but thanks to them averaged 18mph for 100 miles, was chuffed to bits. That was a flat run though. For the Loop though, just go at your own pace and enjoy it, the scenery is exellent too
