Thanks Joe and SteveT for hints on the Skyline. Second half successfully covered today but it was wall to wall sunshine and the ground was frozen so there were no boggy bits!
All I need to find out now is the best way to actually get off Ringing Roger onto the path below!

Well Swoop, seems like you'd be a good choice for guide for the recce on 18th Feb. as you clearly know your way round except for that bit off Ringing Roger. How far is it from the top of the tapes on the zigzag path to RR?

It's not that far -when the path at the top of the zig zags starts to get rocky, then you skirt slightly to the left (west) but not the left turn! To be perfectly honest this is also the best way back to the zz's -slightly rocky at first but improves rapidly.

No problem as long as visibility is perfect and you don't mind being out for 5 hours!
Parking will probably cost £5 so it might be best to meet at say the Dog & Partridge,
Bridgemont and go to Mam Nick in one car.

I've not really got the time to recce this one. I will just buy one of those maps on the day and practise my orienteering skills

Given the numbers there will be on the day, and unless it's very very claggy, don't think you will have much of a problem route finding.... unless you are leading?!

    Seriously.

Doesn't matter how big the field is, you can still get lost, separated and cock it up. Remember AW last year - how many blew it coming over Robinson. Only the view of Buttermere as they dropped below the clouds prevented it from becoming an epic. I can assure you that some of the Edale Skyline terrain is far less forgiving.

The answer is LK and NS - not following any old runner and hoping (s)he knows where (s)he's going.

Even in clear conditions it's trivial to miss the out & back to Grindslow Knoll and only realise as you arrive at Ringing Roger...
