The country is mapped out in 100km squares, so you could have the same grid ref. in different parts of the country, to make each grid ref unique the 100km square is given a letter reference, ie in the south west the grid ref
could be AA 505610 in the north this would be SD 505610, does that help or confuse

Its just grid referencing taken to the extreme thats all - I think it narrows down the grid reference to the nearest blade of grass

Worth noting that if you need to call for help in the UK and you give your location as a 6 fig GR with out the letter you could have a longer wait so always give the letter code.

Sorry to be pedantic (can't resist), but don't you mean that 6 figure GR pins down a location to a 100 M square, i.e. to a square with sides 100M, in other words with an area of 10,000 Sq Metres. And so on for the others.

Footloose - I'm not too bothered what abuse/compliments you hurl in my direction as I storm into the finish but there is 1 public service announcement you could make....which is - the result of the Chelsea v Man Utd score as I for 1 will be gagging to know if we've won the league down at Stamford bridge - may feel like running to the top of PYG if we do (but don't hold me to that).

Also did I read correctly that there will be a Brass band playing on the day - do they do requests ? If so how about Jerusalem prior to the start - should get the old adrenaline flowing if nothing else will.
