1st time Anni Waltzer and loved it. Tremendous route blessed by good, clear weather. Felt relaxed most of the way around, went a bit flat going over Maiden moor and sort of shuffled back from there. Must get up to the lakes more often, will have to check my diary/rota for Kentmere, Fairfield and Borrowdale. A big ta to everyone involved in making the race possible from the cake makers to the wind swept marshalls. Loads of forumites milling about and met quite a few people I haven't seen for some time. Cheers for the lift Stolly - did you polish off that prize cake last night, I noticed you secreted it away for the journey back

Great classic course, lovely bright day, friendly runners and brilliant marshals. What more could I ask for?

Oh the ability to run. Crashed horribly right at the start and was going backwards from Robinson. Felt cold and grey and went straight back to the car for a kip afterwards. Last few months of good running counted for nought. Suddenly I am doubting my aim of the Lakeland Classics.

    Re: Anniversary Waltz

I love Anniversary Waltz and have run 8 of the last 9 races and it seems to me that many runners go off too fast on the long initial track/road sections. I typically reach the top of Robinson something over 40% of my total race time and then there are four more climbs which is where the real race takes place.

I also have my split times for the races which illuminate the "wind factor" yesterday. Compared to my times in, say 2002, yesterday I was 4, 6 and 7 mins slower at the first 3 checkpoints but once out of the head wind gained 5 minutes back to finish only 2 mins slower than in 2002.

Or I may be posting rubbish?

I don't think you are talking rubbish GB, but I did the same yesterday and it didn't seem to help. I set off slow, 40% of total final time to CP1, but then didn't move on and finished only 2 min under my time of 2 years ago, so it is a pb, but when I last raced this it was my first hill season so I should have moved on more than that, I hoped. However mostly I just felt horribly cold and grey yesterday so didn't enjoy the actual run/ stagger.

    Thumbs up Re: Anniversary Waltz

I couldn't make this due to illness I'll be back next year though

Waited on top of Cat Bells to take some photos, really appreciate what the marshals have to do so we can race, it was freezing in that wind up there.

Thanks to every one involved in putting this on, it ran like a well oiled machine

    Re: Anniversary Waltz

well anyway i did actually take it steady at the start but thats because we was due to reccie leg 5 of the bg straight after the race. Well that was until robinson and then my race instinct took over and i tried to go faster.

I could see geoff b in the distance but he was taking miles out of me on the descents, nearly caught him at catbells but he was just too strong.

made a mistake on robinson, trying to climb through the crags instead of following the masses.
nice to meet ady in accy, loads of other forumites there. couldnt quite believe how strong the wind was after the drop off catbells through the bracken.
thanks to wynn, steve and all the team
def a highlight in the fell race calendar

oh well done to pudgy , who went off like a man possesed , only just caught him near he end
    well done IAN
After our reccie we made it back to the hall and steve found us some cake.
Geoff swung into action straight away and wild horses couldnt stop him from taking a piece.
looks like him, pudgy, and fleeter was well into the beer.
