    It took me a few years to find a good line, but now I have I'm not telling anyone. I have an idea of an even quicker route but haven't had time to recce properly and don't fancy risking it on the race.

    Went up Old Man twice yesterday afternoon. First time took a bad line, second time was much better. Not that I'll get it right on the day.

    Good cakes at the start?! Is that recommended preparation?

    Thanks for the info. sounds like a good route. Unfortunately I'm injured but the other half is having a go, I'll tell her the direct line off the Old Man is the way forward....

    tourist route for me, Ive got glass ankles.

    When i did it i think everyone took a direct line. I cant remember anyone using the tourist route

    The tourist route is just as bad on your ankles anyway.

    The question is, is the "direct line" quicker than the tourist route with short cuts??????????

    Indeed it is! Which is one of the reasons I think Coniston is a cracking race.
