This is a remote race to get to, but anyone doing the Jura, and possibly planning to spend the half term holiday in the Highlands, might be tempted. These photos were taken in February this year.
Slioch from about half a mile into the race.
Slioch summit from about half way up.
The route follows this ridge after the main summit.
View from the summit: Loch Maree; Outer Hebrides just visible.
You only get one Munro tick on this race, but there are plenty others nearby. We live fairly close to here, so if you are in the area, and fancy a jog, drop me an e-mail.
A few years ago I did quite a bit of walking in and around the Loch Maree area from a base at Badachro. One trip was up Slioch - absolutely superb wilderness and very unspolit in comparison to the Peak. Didn't see a soul for the whole week, unlike the Lakes.
If only it wasn't so bl**dy far to get to!
fantastic area, will be a fantastic race, not sure if i can get there for weekend though, did highlander which was a bit further west but it is a fantastic area
The race starts at 12 noon, Saturday 31st May, near Kinlochewe.
Here's a map of the route:
Hopefully be heading up for this with a couple of other Ochil runners.
thats great. hopefully see you there.
That's some route! The top bit could be interesting in mist - plenty of crags if you get the descent wrong. Quite a slog back alongside the Loch as well (at least, it's always seemed that way when I've walked it).
Anyone know what date this is on this year?
Its not happening this year. According to http://www.highlandhillrunners.org.u...ces/4515259737
