lots from the scotland trip including 100's of deer, mountain hares, rabbitts Ptarmigan, plovers, sky larks and even a Dotterel (i was told by a bird spotter nearby) all the other usuall suspects but the main highlight for me was a wild otter playing/hunting high in the hills, I sat and watched whilst muncing flapjack for 10 minutes. Awsome

Also saw a 4 Golden Eagles, 2 ospreys and two owls (one was a barn owl buzzing a smaller bird of prey Kestrel? eating a catch on a fence post) very early one morning.

It made going solo and early in to the wilds all the more rewarding

IanD your trip to Scotland sounds very rewarding.

Sat watching a wildife programme early this morning whilst having breakfast Simon King had a great clip of a family of otters playing in a lock. Dotterels are pretty rare to see one of the Plover family.

I wouldn't have know the Dotteral if this other couple weren't there. They were the first people I'd seen on my longer trip.

Also saw another bird that was Skylark sized and stayed low to the ground but had very distinctive red and yellow head but can't find it in any of my books, Any Ideas

When I was out cycling yesterday evening I watched a barn owl catch a baby rabbit and fly back to its nest in a nearby wood.

I was able to follow the barn owl along the road for about 400 yards with the bird flying about 10 yards from me at about 20mph. A wonderful sight.

Saw lots around Stratford: woodpeckers, deer, owls - all in the middle of the day. Oh and rabbits a plenty. On the downside, considerably more road kill than oop north...
