My training partner got a call from the race organisor last week offering him a place. Earlier on in the year he was told he was so far down the reserve list he didn't have a chance of getting in. Why so many withdrawals? at least they have let him know.
Perhaps they were looking at the BBC monthly forecast for the week up to the 8th of September

Oh goody. It's going to be windy, then cold and windy with lots of rain. Still, at least at 4000ft up we might get some snow to play with....
Good luck to all running this year. I would like another bash at it but I'm doing the River Ayr Way ultra challenge that day instead.
One question though (apologies if it's been covered in this thread already), will runners still be able to go "straight up" as opposed to the zig-zags? I just ask as a friend was running up there a couple of weeks ago and said it was all fenced off to stop folk leaving the path and causing more erosion.
(I suspect there may be special dispensation for the race but if it is fenced off I suppose that would make the old records hard to beat).
