Selwyn always said "If you can get to the race then the race is on".

I'll be there alright, it's one of my favourites, so lets hope he's right and the weather doesn't scupper it for us all.

Oh, and not forgetting ".......and the sun always shines for the 3 Shires".

Not done a long race before, only managed Hutton roof and Lingmell dash, also I'm not confident navigating in the mist so not sure if I'm doing this race or not yet. If the weather is ok I'm up for it. I'm going up for the weekend anyway as my mate is doing the race also so I'll decide on the day.

We did the first half of the route a few weeks ago and I made it to the 3 shires stone in about 1:50 so I'll be close to the cut-off anyway. That climb up wetherlam killed me!

    Hoping for sunshine!!

You'd better prepare yourself for an equally steep climb up Lingmoor then

From the website it looks as though they are trying to arrange parking at Hodge Close. Quite fancy this race, is there a more nifty way between Wetherlam and Swirl How than Prison Band ?

I think the prison band's the best way. It's not too bad, and it makes it a tad more interesting than most plods.

The only way is to straight line it up Prison Band.

    This just received from Selwyn

As I write all of the parking fields for the Three Shires Race are completely waterlogged, and the forecast is bad. We're looking at alternatives but the race may not go ahead. We've already cancelled the junior races. Further information will be posted here and on the Ambleside AC website by next Wednesday (17.9) so please check before you come.
    Sorry! Selwyn

    Re: Three Shires

FYI - update taken from the Ambleside web site this afternoon.

Ian tells me that folk are keen on the race going ahead with parking at Hodge Close. We'll work on arranging that with the quarry but we're going to need even more help to make that happen. I reckon a marshall on the main road from about 9am directing folk down to the Hodge Close lane end and another on that junction. Then two parking folk up at the quarry. I'll flag the route back to the Shires (about 2k) beforehand. That will neccessitate starting the race at 11.30.
At the moment I have offers of help from yourself, Jane Reedy, and John B. We need in the region of 20 to make it work! At the moment that leaves something of a shortfall!! Step up to the plate now please folks. Emails to me :- 'Any reasonable offer....'
Anyone with a large frame tent?....

For 24 years we've never had more than four or five volunteers a fortnight before the race - as I've said before though, this is where it starts to feel a tad lonely and a even a little bit scary being the organiser of a 'fairly' high profile long race.

Given that for the last couple of years hardly any juniors have turned up, and that as it stands they would be parking 2k away, I think we need to take the decision now to abandon the Junior Races, so please pass that on as a definite decision to any juniors you know (or parents of juniors).

    Thanks folks!

    Selwyn

THREE SHIRES RACE - GAME ON!!

We've been very lucky to arrange last minute parking at Hodge Close Quarry about 2k from the race venue at the Three Shires Inn.

Just follow the signs and marshalls directions. Afraid we'll have to take another quid off you for the privilege of a 25 minute walk in and out!
We'll delay the start to 11.30am by which time everyone should be there. We'll have a dry-ish, secure-ish clothing store in the race field so you may want to bring spare kit in a distinctive bag. It wont be much fun sorting through 250 Tesco bags to find yours!

Please follow the directions and dont try to find your own parking space somewhere nearer. This is a sensitive issue and the future of the race is in your hands!

    Our message has always been:-
'If you can get to Little Langdale, the race will be on.' This has now changed to:-
'Even if you cant get to Little Langdale - the race will still be on!'
