sorry
rite , talking to the clubmate she has told me that when her periods stopped the doctor prescibed calcium after having her bone scan. some time later she visited a consultant and he was concerned that her period had stopped for longer than three months.
right heres the problem and its not easy to remember cos ive been up all night.
as your periods stop your body starts to speed up the rate in which calcium is excreted by the body, hence the bone problem in the first place
if your periods cease for a fair length of time ( im assuming 3/4 months your body rapidly increases the amount of calcium its using so it becomes a catch 22 situation, more calcium is required as more is being used( as so often in life there is always a catch yeah.
the consultant told her that calcium was only a short solution to her problem.
she had to cut back her training and increase her body fat as well.
her period must have returned to normal cos she said she was now okay.
a bit of background to my clubmate
she was doing 60 miles per week and racing most of the year, she said the consultant had told her that her body had just reached its maximum and couldnt do no more
she now runs a more sensible 35miles a week
Daz have you become a gynaecologist???
Check the title of the thread
The lengths some people will go to, just to catch JJ
Thanks mate
At least you did'nt class me as a Thick Plater.
Looking at the research, body weight and fat tend not to be the most significant variables affecting the menstrual cycle. It tends to be reduced calorie intake or excessive calorie output that is the cause of the loss of mestruation.........as far as I can suss.
Replacing what you use up in training/racing/recovering seems to be the key to staying healthy.........just not too sure where I may be lacking. Thanks for the info. so far.....
Hmmm maybe I need to read through this thread. I dont train hard (well I find it hard but compared to most girlies on this forum I may as well be running backwards - I am rubbish ) but I have been experiencing... hmmm I am not sure I can discuss my menstrual cycle on the forum .... perhaps I will just read through this useful thread - well done justlovestretching for starting it
