I was reading that, News and Star? So currently about 100 people are stranded due to a landslide, while 1700 are unaccounted for? I think my dad (Chris Knox) was supposed to be running but I have no idea if he did, and I'm quite worried to be honest.

Why aren't the runners allowed mobile phones? Is it incase they use a GPS, would that be considered cheating?

As much as I hate to say it the BBC are understating the rain that fell in the Borrowdale Valley on Thursday and Yesterday. You can check past weather in Borrowdale here:
    http://www.keswickweather.co.uk
The weather station for Borrowdale school shows that 130mm on Thursday,
and yesterdays storm threw another 130mm.
It is not uncommon for the Borrowdale Valley to receive more than twice the rain of Keswick.
This is the wettest place in Britain after all.

Just tried to log onto the omm website and I guess unsurprisingly its down. Here's hoping everyone out there is safe and sound in their tents and everyone gets off the hills ok today.

Not sure the bloke who own honister slate mine is helping by saying the organisers should be shot!

What we all need to remember is that the news love a story and will always 'beef' it up to make it sound more interesting. There are a number of people who have been taken to hospital, you would expect that from any big race that's ran in winter.

Irrespective of blame, responsibility and 'experience' there are 1700 runners 'missing' which unfortunately means that the emergency services have a duty of care to find them. The drain on resources, both centrally funded, and more importantly, voluntary rescue organisations, might be something that has longer term ramifications on the region and the future of the OMM.

there was some very lively debate on the Sleepmonsters forum last night too, but that seems to have disappeared this morning.
