I wore them on saturday for my run up Coniston Old Man, they were immense
Thats a good idea actaully. There is a mountaineering so i can see they can help. First, im going to empty all my cupboards and see if by chance i can find them - although i havent seen them since i was in scouts which was about hmm...4 years maybe?

After all this thread, at the Roaches yesturday lining up before the start, i noticed quite alot of the other runners had next to nothing in their bumbags, whereas mine was rammed with the kit requirements.
Could it be because we didnt get our kit checked that they decided they'd get away with leaving stuff behind.
It was quite a safe route in the sence that you unless your really unlucky, if you get into trouble there would be someone who would see you our find you so you shouldnt need to much stuff.
So i ask, do any of you leave some of the kit requirements behinf if you dont get checked?
i dont skimp on kit, never know when it may be needed
I don't but there are plenty who do I'm sure, there are also those that 'bend' the rules or go with a bare minimum, remember that a 'Kit requirement is a minimum requirement.
Now I don't want to wrap every one up in cotton wool and take the fun or adventure out of fell running but on some races you need to carry the kit required, ie OMM, HPM, Fellsman for a reason.
Whilst I was out today on Kinder one of the group was part of the committee for the RR50 and I made the point to him that last year there were competitors with out a waterproofs, hat or gloves, I know this because I handed mine out to some very sorry looking runners, thankfully all me gear was posted back with thanks but why would anyone venture out in winter to run 50 miles with out a waterproof
let me assure any one on Tankies that I will be on Kit check and there will be a check, just as there was on the Edale Skyline.![]()
Quite right too, the same runner from the RR50 told me never takes an extra top because he never gets cold whilst running (he's a very experienced vet ultra runner), but the 'extra' top is for when you are not or can't run! ........
for me it's just not worth it.
I had waterproof jacket, trousers, compass, map, whistle, bit of first aid, gels, sandwich, drink, erm think that was it....and i was wearing my hat and gloves.
From the Macclesfield website, i think it said something like general or standard kit requirements apply.
