    What a great race. I did it in the mid 60's but thought I should have been faster.
    I wore my walsh's and had reasonable grip most of the way.
    I lost places on the ups and downs but made them back on the flat.
    The start I found was a bit of a lottery because 360 will not go in to 1 but once we were on the top it was good.
    I was shocked that a 10k would take me that long but I now have full respect for the runners who do this every week. It is much much tougher style of running.
    The people all seem a lot friendlier though. Everyone I spoke with in the pub was great.
    Many thanks to the host club.

    I really enjoyed todays race apart from having to stop THREE times to tie my bl00dy laces.

    I fell for my first time in a race today too, after catching my foot about 3 times (not lifting it high enough) and getting really frustrated with myself, I landed funny and my leg bent at a funny angle, but luckily it was just a tumble and I was right back up. It happened just after you get to the top the first time and it was only when I stopped at the finish it started hurting.

    I came home in 310th position but Ian Holmes knew I was closing on him. I'll get you next time Ian

    Excellent race and a super turnout, well done EVERYONE! Pencilled in for next year.

    Well done to the kids too. I thought they were all great. My lad (in the U8's) lost his shoe just before the finish and hopped over the finish line to complete his first fell race.

    Thanks to Tod and all the helpers for putting this event on again and what a turn out! I managed to find a deep bog early on and ran the course bogged up from ankle to shoulder! ML - I'll get the guiness in next Saturday - cheers!!

    Re: Shepherds Skyline

    Please can I say a massive thanks to everybody who helped me or offered help today when my leg gave way 100 yards down from Stoodley.

    I was extremely touched by the number of people who halted their races to check that I was ok and offer items of clothing. Even when there was a big group of people around me, people were still stopping to check I was ok. It really shows the camaraderie and generosity amongst us fell runners.

    I will obviously thank people properly once I’m back mobile again, but I’d just like to take the opportunity now to thank the following people in particular:

    • all the Tod Harriers marshals and race organisers for tremendous support both at the scene and logistically (the martials at the top in particular);
    • Pudgy and Roger Rabbit for staying at the scene so long in the freezing cold with few layers of clothing;
    • the woman who gave me the ‘Where’s Wally’ stripy hat and helped tremendously at the scene;
    • Mountain Rescue – and for the quality of mid stretcher conversation!;
    • both sets of paramedics;
    • other people who stayed at the top with me whose names I don’t know;
    • the people who gave me extra kit (I’ll get a proper list together and make sure it all gets back to the owners soon, washed of course. From what I can remember, this includes: a wooley hat, Inov 8 cap, two fleeces, two kags (both female!), magic gloves and waterproof gloves);
    • whoever made the sensible decision that compulsory wind proofs should be carried!
    • anybody else that stopped to help me (including Roger Howarth my Physics teacher when I was at school myself).
    • My coach Graeme for arranging with his neighbours for them to transport my girlfriend to where the ambulance was waiting (he was ill in bed, Siobhan’s car was at her mum’s)
    • Grahame’s neighbours Andy and Rose (both CVFR members) for giving Siobhan a lift.
    • Siobhan for being the best girlfriend/nurse in the world!
    • Siobhan’s mum for picking us up from the hospital.
    • The ‘proper’ nurses at hospital.
    I feel extremely indebted to the above and very foolish for descending off Stoodley at an excessively reckless and unsustainable speed.

    I’m going to the hospital again on Tuesday once the swelling has gone down enough to make a proper assessment. They know what definitely happened is my patella dislocated itself (this was also obvious from the fact that my knee was 90 degrees to the right when I first looked down at it, and I had to click it back into place!). It’s also a strong possibility I’ve torn a ligament(s) but I’ll have to wait and hope not. At the moment my leg won’t bend at the knee or raise off the ground from the hip, so it’s splinted and I’m on crutches – no work for me on Monday I guess!

    Speedy recovery Andy.

    It comes as no surprise to me that you were cared for by so many-those you can name and those that you cant.

    Lots of people laughing at Andy.

    Get well soon AG, and love the hat. (There are a few other photos on Flickr of the race, before I got distracted by AGs acrobatics, and then by the pub)

    I will echo what AG has said about the race organisation. Marshals were on the scene almost immeadiately, extra clothing, in what was distinctly nippy weather, shortly after. Everybody was in touch with the organiser, who was able to organise a speedy rescue. I suppose the moral is, if you want to get injured, pick a Tod Harriers race
