am now thinking that although we don't really need to do Moot Hall to Latrigg (from a recce'ing point of view) - it would be nice to do the whole of Moot Hall to Skiddaw to get a better idea of the schedule time for that section...

and you're right - I think we would get a special award from the Bob Graham Club if we could get round Leg 1 in November without getting our feet wet!

You have to reccie the section from the Moot Hall to Latrigg. So many people have got that very first bit wrong, and whilst you don't loose a huge amount of time, it's not good for morale.

My advice would be to reccy every last bit of the route.

I am with Marvin on this.

I set out back in 1985 in very thick fog, hadn't reccied the route across the Fitz Park and spent too much time finding the way out. The goal posts helped!

It's a hard enough job for the vast majority of us, so don't make it any harder by not looking over every inch of the ground. That's hardly a chore is it?

I understand that there was a group last year that reached Little Town on a clockwise round with time in hand, went wrong on road back to the Moot Hall and finished outside 24 hours.

has anybody done Moot Hall to Skiddaw by going via Applethwaite-Millbeck-CarlSide?

I can see that the traditional route has a steadier gradient (rather than flat + very steep), but just wondered if anybody had tried it out time-wise...?

There was talk of this some time back. A couple of people had "raced" against each other. The general perception was that, in terms of time, there was little in it but that the Carlside route took more out of your legs.....which is not too good at such an early stage!
