    Re: Today's Training

    Yesterday:
Bit of strength work in the morning, still can't see a 6 pack?
Took one of the cross country team lads for a run in the afternoon. He's 17, slim and fit; everything I'm not. I said we should do a steadt run as I was tired (good excuse in there striaght way!). Took him for 6 or 7 miles with a 1000" of climb. He bounced up and I chugged up. Just over an hour!

Today: Dropped my car off for some work in town and ran back, a few hills and put some strides in. 35 mins. Down the gym tonight for some weights.

Strides are running fast for abot 20 to 30 secs. The idea, I think, is that you stimulate your muscles into a good efficient fast motion but because you don't run fast for enough time to build up any lactic you don't get the stiffness or tiredness. Good on an easy or steady run to get some "easy" speed work done. I'm told that if you do them at the end of a long run it can make some of your fast twitch muscles also work as slow twitch; FOG fibres or something. Obviously if you want a definative answer you would need to talk to someone considerably brighter than I.

6 miles up a damp, cold & dreary Hameldon hill - no strides.
