This is a late victorian artifact & so uses hooks and eyelets to close as the zip hadn't been invented. While it does not include the ping pong ball thing, we will be auctioning a wooden engraved ball gag hand carved by a now extinct tribe of pygmies from the sahara desert. I understand that it was produced by commission to be compatable with an early victorian gimp mask which was in the possession of the explorer sir henry hardcock who discovered the tribe in 1886. I imagine an early victorian gimp mask should be much the same as design as it's descendants, and therefore would think it would be intercompatible? Perhaps some other experts could shed light from experience?

Hmm, very interesting. Perhaps i should look in my uni's library if theres any extra info they can offer my. If not i could ask a librarian is they can tell me much about Mr Hardcock.

Alas, I have just been told by Wheeze, who I understand is something of an expert on such items, that an early victorian gimp mask is a totally different design to a late victorian oned. As during the early victorian period it was fashionable for men to have large mutton chop whiskers there was a fairly generous cut to the gimp mask in order not to crush the whiskers. Meanwhile as during the late victorian period men tended to be increasingly clean shaven, the masks were cut tighter to increase the gimp experience. Therefore a ball gag made for an early victorian gimp mask would not be compatible with a late victorian gimp mask. Apparently however you can do a conversion job, but this would involve defacing an antique piece which woud be rather a shame really.

They did actually. In episode 3, series 4 you will recollect they excavated a BDSM dungeon originally established by Henry the 8th. One of the artifacts they found was an Elizabethan gimp mask probably belonging to a nobleman.
