As you well know brightness on its own does not make a good head torch for fell running at night.

A bit brighter than my xp would do for the rockier descents.
It needs to be easy to switch power levels.
A wide beam but also a penetrating beam when required.
Have different sized battery options one of them a belt pack.
    A comfortable head strap.
Easy to carry in the hand.

I'd say thats the only time you can have them on full beam without blinding yourself

When the Myo xp was fitted with one it would still output a 54m beam after 15h alas no more unless you know otherwise

The ultras off my list as well now as they are not going to produce the larger batteries, its starting to look like Petzl have problems with rechargeable batteries
As far as I know the Myo XP battery pack will make a come back, but you never know with Petzl

The time will come when we will be able to command car headlight levels of brightness and when that happens, this murky golden age of slightly batty running will be over and every Tom, Dick, Harry and Sally will be bat running. By then, I’ll be even more of an old codger than I am now and I’ll be saying “I remember t’days when it were a proper adventure goin bat runnin’”

I've served my apprenticeship with a little Tikka plus...

I know what you're getting at, but even the Hope 4 just provides a relatively small bubble of light and the night is still so big...

When admiring the view at the top of a fell at night* i generally turn off the torch! (*Even i can see that this may sound a bit crazy to anyone who's not stood by a cairn on a moon-lit night gazing across at the snowcapped fells in the distance...!

Being able to see the ice is a BIG plus too!

When did that happen? I thought there was just a delay and the deal was that you'd get the smaller pack until the bigger ones arrived, so in fact got a free spare battery pack!?????

Talking of Hope 4s - does anyone know what the 'special deal' to FRA members is that was mentioned in the latest issue of Fellrunner? I tried contacting them but haven't had any reply.

It took a while for them to reply to me and they offered 10% and then sent me a further email saying to purchase them from Facewest where they are selling them for 10% less than the RRP.

Thanks. Not much of a special deal at all then, 5 minutes on google and there are several sites offering more off than that

Just make sure that they are the Vision Adventure, as I believe they do one which is just for cycling and doesn't come with the head strap.
