The rumbling you heard was the car, not me! I ran in Heaton Park this morning.
9.25 miles around Pendle - half tour recce, big Thanks to Michael from Clayton (oops-think that where he was from - sorry if wrong M) for showing us the correct route!! nearly a wrong turn on the way back![]()
good run though and the rain held off![]()
26 miles - road
4 laps of a hilly circuit featuring 600ft ascent each lap.
Lap 1 was a gentle introduction. 2 and 3 were ran a little harder and 4 was just a case of hanging on to get to the end.
Approx 2mins slower for the second half than the first which is not too bad a split i guess.
Total time was 2:59:50 which would be close to 7m/m for the full 26.2 i reckon.
Question is - can I manage about 1 min/mile faster at FLM?
I have ran the marathon 16 mins faster than this 26 (in 2004) but as I havent used this circuit very much so far this year I'm not really used to all the climbing (and descending) so am hoping to manage at least 20 mins quicker on the day.
We'll see in 7 weeks eh?
Went up Blake fell last night, it snowed just before I set off leaving an inch of covering.
Had a total headtorch failure about halfway along the forest track! The moon was drifting in and out of the clouds so there was only one thing for it, carry on to the top![]()
As I neared the summit the clouds blew away, I was almost blinded by the moonlight reflecting off the snow, at the top could see the clouds rolling off the Grasmoor fells, had a very slow descent as I was taking in the view all the time, absolutely fantastic! one of those times you realise why we run on the fells.

Knocked out a mile of free-style at the aqua centre this morning. It took me 43mins and 22 seconds which is quite good for me.
Non the less I make Mud look like a dolphin.![]()
Short, wet and windy bike ride. Probably around 40miles. Hilly headwind road out - lucky if we managed 14mph. Flat tailwind rode back home - 28-30mph without trying.
18.3 miles/2500 ft around Knowl Hill and Mary Towneley route up to highest point. Strong winds on the top, hail and rain slowed us down quite a bit. Had to resort to full body cover (except lost hat on way) and still got very chilled.
Sat was a recce of pendle half tour!
Sunday was lytham st anns ultrafit (yes ultrafit) 10 miles.
What a bloody race, first 5 miles into a gale (I'm not joking) with the rain and the icecream headache I have never wanted to be somewhere else more and not packing it in was the main aim for the race!
First 5 miles in a cold miserable 35 mins!
Coming back with the wind behind covered the second five in just over 31 mins for a PB of 1:06:35, pretty pleased as I wasn't too tired at the end either!![]()
Now I AM I AM I AM I AM going to have a rest day today, so might be out on the bike....does that count?
Still umming and arring about half tour next sat as I have 20 mile road race on the sunday as well. Not sure you could do an 'easy' 1/2 tour?????
Went orienteering on Marsden Moor - has a late start so got all the rain
found it hard reading the map with fogged up specs, after control 5 set off
and found I was well on the way to 7 before I realised I'd missed 6 (that cost me!) very tiring over the tussocks but enjoyed it overall - Cold at the finish but thankful for the minibus lift back from the moor to the carpark in Marsden.
