Well my 'Ogden Grog' home brew cider is tasting better for 'ageing' in the shed. A little tarte last week but very drinkable now. A nice sensible 5% unlike the prison cider I have bottled up and on the go which seems to come out around 12% and very dry but drinkable whilst you can find your mouth. Better not crack another bottle, lots of driving and a bit of running to do tommoz

i have to agree with Stolly cider ain't ale..

just waiting for the weather to warm up to 5+ degrees so i can start brewing ale again..

I know you like local Yorkshire ales Stolly. Have you tried the Naylors range brewed in Crosshills? I had their Pinnacle Blonde and Bitter last night in bottles and the Bitter in particular was very good

No but I will DT - I'm drinking a bottle of TT Landlord though at this very second.

Yeah even CAMRA call it 'real cider' and not real ale . To make matters worse Ady was talking about home made cider which probably counts as moonshine!

It's as real as it comes. Apples, yeast, sugar (if you want a kick) and that's it (added ginger & cloves are quite nice also). How more real can it get? It has bad press from the chav brigade but it is a highly underated drink in a vast variety of formats. The cider over in Brittany is very nice, good to go and visit the local farms and pick up a few bottles very cheaply.
Real most certainly but I will concede the point that it is a cider as opposed to an ale if you want to be captious

Ady my in laws came from Somerset and I was 'lucky' enough to be taken to a local cider maker to buy three jerry cans full yonks ago. Needless to say the stuff was spastically strong and it was impossible to see your hand on the other side of the glass if you held it up to the light. It could've equally worked as paint stripper or floor varnish. Thats cider!

You've been spoilt Stolly. Real Somerset cider and now real Yorkshire ales!Next you'll be telling us your grandad lived in Belgium and used to take you round the local breweries when you visited! Anyway, each to his own but I do like a drop of cider. At least the speciality farm produced ciders actually have a taste before you lose your senses unlike 'White Lightening' and others of that ilk. When I have got my ginger/clove/sugar balance just right I will bring you up a bottle up to compare and contrast
