I made that 21.3m/4,000ft and i don't think I went the wrong way because I followed the worn 'tobbagon run'. Anyone else measure it?
My mistakes:
- took on too little fluids too late = bad cramp in both legs;
- 1 flap jack was not enough - should have grazed all the way - bonked at about 2.75hr;
- wrong shoes (Mizuno WH) - had poor grip on the snow, ran VERY inefficiently due to sliding - should have wore my innov8s.
One of the hardest events I have done.
Exactly the same problem here, spent many a fun moment sliding downhill on my backside, ache in places i don't usually ache, was going to take my innovv8's as well and decide before the start which to wear, but forgot to stick them in my bag
21.5 miles and 3900ft according to my track and Tracklogs.
I discovered that my Mudclaw 270s were more worn than I had realised when putting them on for the race and wished I'd taken a newer pair. Like you, I found myself sliding around, but I think that would have happened in the deeper snow whatever we'd been wearing.
Cramp hit me in both calves on the last climb up the sledging field, but still managed to pass about four people on the run-in from there.
The funniest moment for me was being wiped out by someone else tobogganing down towards checkpoint 2 on his bum.
What a magic experience to have run that race in those conditions, and with such good visibility. My favourite bit was the run down from Withins Height to the reservoir - brilliant. Thanks for fixing it Ben.

I enjoyed those conditions and had lots of funny looks because id only got shorts on but it just felt right and in a strange way the snow acted as an anesthetic on the legs.
It was tough and i had to have several chats with myself especially towards the resevoir as i tumbled 3 times and a but like Marvin realising i should have taken my brand new shoes. I actually had a row with my shoes at that point shouting "Dont f,.;.,.,n start now " .
Anyway best sight of the day was when Emma kindly brought me a cup of tea at the end
One point was when id run up the sledging field and up the road , i got to the bit where you turned left to go to the palying field and just didnt know where to go so i waited 3 minutes for the runner behind to catch up.
You should have studied the "Finish" map on the CVFR website Daz and taken a copy with you.
Yes i should but just thought that corner should have had a flag on it.
Many thanks to all the guys that made it happen though. It was a great experience.
I did have an added incentive at the start as id wanted to run quicker and be able to give Geoff his birthday cake as he crossed the line but everytime i looked round he was on my tale. And added to that at the end i couldnt walk put paid to my plans.
Anyway it was nice to give him the cake.
V50 phew. Hope im that good in 12 years time.

my walshs were good, only slipped once close to 12mile mark coming off a hill?
They are new so had good grip.... they dont stop cramp though.
My cramp seems to disappear as I get more long races under my belt over the year, I guess I should do more of em eh?
Emm, think I saw you at Pavilion but too exhausted to raise an introduction, soz, I only had eyes for tea and cake.
