The Caty, an excellent choice, I shall be arriving on my bike so see you there (look out for the knackered fell-runner with grey short hair......or is that most of us!)

You'll know it's Clive by the fact that he will be able to predict to the very second when he will arrive having allowed for following wind, wind direction, wind speed etc...he's that precise

Been looking at checkpoints and wondering how deep the heather is?

Would anyone from CV like to shed some light on the matter?

I noticed a few people last year used the Calderdale Way path and then cut up to Crow Hill rather than the direct route through the heather which was a bit hard going as I recall. The C.W. path is longer but I don't know if its any quicker as I haven't tried it?

    Re: Midgley Moor

I've used the CW a couple of times (and been the only person to do so, which was a bit disconcerting). It's definitely longer, and I've done it for safety as much as speed - I know my ankles are at risk through that heather. Having said that, one year the headwind was so strong that I reckon the CW was the better option, being less exposed.
In short, the direct way is probably best, but the CW is worth a try if you hate the rough stuff, or if weather conditions tip the balance, or if not enough heather has been burnt back.
The other big debate of course is about the return to the stile at Brownhill. I always take the moor edge route - faster running but a longer distance - and I'd be interested to know how it compares with the direct hack.

Make sure that you tape your laces for this race - double knots didn't work for me in the heather.

Aren't the google earth images out of date? The state of the heather, which is the critical factor, changes radically from one year to the next, and paths that are clear when it's been burnt back are completely invisible/useless next time you try to find 'em.

But good luck, Stagger . Ever the free spirit...
I must admit to being intrigued to know the details of your cunning plan...
