    Re: Todays Bike Ride

Only 52 miles but full of vicious climbs so at a miserly 13.5mph It was "my friend" Chas's route choice and seemed like a gratuitous hill rep session. He is no longer my friend.
But...............in a last ditch effort to salvage some pleasure out of the ride we took the top of the moor route back to Ponty from Llanwonno, wonderful undulating and (mostly)downhill swoop round bend after switchback after bend on a single track road at max velocity. Simply one of the best bits of road you could ever wish to ride

Next time you all do a long ride
Get to 6hrs 41mins which is the point where Cavendish won the Milan San Remo which is 185miles and see how many miles your short.
Always makes me laugh that does.

Al you should be able to ride 100miles no problem
Its a mind over matter thing really and the most important thing is coca cola in big quantities

70 miles on the Pompino yesterday. Haven't been that far in ages, haven't *ever* ridden the Pompt that far. Lovely. It's only when you ride that long you realise how you appreciate the chance to rearrange downstairs when you're riding gears ;-)

Just over 2 hours in the Ribble Valley to try and loosen up the legs from yesterday. It stayed dry but rain is on the cards for the rest of the week it seems.

    Al
    34 miles

Mate you got a way to go yet
You heard about Master Jaques who in 1965 won the incredibly tough Dauphine Libre race at 3.00pm and then caught a plane at 6.00pm to Bordeaux to ride the 575km or 350mile Bordeaux-Paris stage race the following day.

Starting in the night and lasting quie a number of hours . He beat Tom Simpson by 57seconds
I may be wrong but i recall that he had ridden 1000 racing miles that week

Imagine winning the Dauphine Libre was hard enough but to then ride 350miles the day after.

Makes my 10 odd miles seem paltry

The Bordeaux Paris race is now defunct on grounds that it became to inhumane.
with 184 career victories he truly was one of the greats

Sorry, showing my anorak cycling side
If you ever want to ride 100miles. Just give me a shout
