Welcome to the forum, steve-o. Sounds as if you've already decided you're nuts too. That's all the qualification you need.

You guys are nuts, and now I am going to have to start training for next year. Not many hills down here though so I reckon a few trips up any spare weekends I have.
Welcome to the forum Steveo, start now and you'll be sorted come next year.
Nice pix, love the flat ginger cake, mmm.

Those photos really give a clear impression of the agony of Whernside. I assume you were moving along it with the runners.
From a runner's perspective, all is accurate until you move INSIDE the Hill Inn and the blur of pain is banished by a swift pint...
    (Believe me, I've been tempted.)

    How does it go..

You don't have to be mad to be a fell runner but it sure helps

Some of the best pics so far, they really capture the event and it's sad to say I never noticed those view of RH viaduct it must have the sweat in my eyes.

    thanks Steve-o

Shame we missed the leader by about 15 minutes by the looks of it. Yes, we encountered you lot at Whernside, where we stopped for a bit, then carried on much the same route. Mate who came along with now wants to walk it again much quicker so with a bit of running and no stops so we also will be up later this year with no pint stop.

Forgot to say, should anyone want any hi-res copies of the photos then drop me a PM.

The cramp was a surprise. From the top of Whernside it was real dig down deep inside yourself territory. I had a chance to get some salt tablets but forgot till it was too late but I did get plenty to eat. I couldn't get any steam up from Inglebugger. Everytime I tried to open up the crampy tendrils started to tighten on my legs. People kept pulling up all along the trail but somehow I kept going by maintaining a jogging pace. Just before Sulber Nick I took a massive p*sser but luckily it was a gravelly bit of path so only sustained a livid graze on my shoulder which is what I landed on. (How good did it look?) I passed the sign which said 1 mile to Horton then saw the marquees and screamed inside but it's miles away I'm not going to make it... I made it.
My wife said I looked much worse than anybody else crossing the line. Apparently my head was caked in salt so I looked like one of Davy Jones' crew in Pirates of the Carribean.
Thanks again for all the encouragement back in January. A lifetime's ambition achieved. And who knows... 4.40 next year?
A big well done GD....so you've got the bug....see you next year!

Did 4-55 last year on debut and hoped to chip perhaps 5-10mins this year. Only made Hill Inn cut-off by 8mins after feeling dreadful up Whernside followed by outbreak of severe cramp. Ran reasonably well for me off Ingleborough after walking up. Camaderie at the back was fantastic mind and met some lovely people. Well done merrylegs and Tussockface!
