Hoffmeister how did you lose that many places between Brown Knoll and Jacobs Ladder did you go via Hayfield?

Don't ask! How could I get lost on the only flagged section? A question I keep asking myself. The hail was blowing horizontally at that stage so my head was down and I just kept going.......until I realised I was being a right plonker and turned around to see a snake of runners on the horizon! All that hard work gone to waste. Oh well, no-one to blame but me. Wont bother recceing in future!

I nearly went wrong there for the same reason - one minute I was following the flags along a little trod, keeping the hail out of my eyes - next minute I was still on the trod but the flags were nowhere to be seen! Only lost me 5 seconds though.

I set out to view the race at Jacobs Ladder (had to pull out earlier in the week due to recurrence of lurgy). I walked up from Hayfield and into a fierce white-out and blizzard as I took the high level route going via the ridge over Mount Famine. As I went past South Head, on my way to pick up the Skyline route as it came off Brown Knoll, a figure staggered towards me out of the mist. Oh my gawd I thought, A runner way off course! It turned out it was slightly worse than that, a walker who thought that he was now approaching Mam Tor on a walk from Edale!! It took a little while to convince him that he was more than a little bit of course, but at least he came back with me on the way to Jacobs ladder, so I could get him pointed back towards Edale.

I also saw a buff, a few beanies and a jacket go that way...

Just been for a jog over kinder, It still has plenty of snow on top, set off from the Snake over to RR took the direct route to Grindslow with the slim hope of finding any hats that have fallen to earth after being blasted off from the Knoll during the race.

    SUCCESS
I found my mountain Cap with about a litre of water in it about 100 m from the top. nothing else was evident though.

Returned back feeling very happy via Seal Stones in a real pea souper.

Hi SS Sounds like a plan, Russ will be joining us.

It was still cold up there and really thick with fog, Not like last nights Wart run, over Back tor to Howshor Tor down to pack horse bridge where Ben went for a swim back via the Boundary stones under a clear starry night with no wind, Heaven

As one of the famous six mountain rescued at Jacobs Ladder, I'd like to extend a warm thanks to the help from marshalls, spectators and the mountain rescue guys. We were treated like Kings given the conditions, and were even attended by a doctor. Fair play indeed.

At the end of the day, we are all big enough to decide whether we want to compete or not. Maybe next time, I'll not wear shorts mind. It was such a pity though as I felt really comfortable at half way and was sitting in a great position....guess I didnt count on falling and freezing up over Brown Knoll. Shame.
