    Re: Welsh 1000m peaks

Agree with Bob, last year in fairly good conditions, though clag above 8-900m a lot of people got lost. Even last week in a race in the Carneddau some muppets got lost..(me)

It does get very spread out, I normally only ever see 2 or 3 people on this race. The first part on the Carneddau is worth a recce.

From the Bera's to Carnedd dafydd I'd keep the map out. The top of the Glyders section is also a bit nasty, only a few hundred metres long but enough that you can lose a lot of time and I've known even local runners get very lost.

Thanks, sadly no time for a recce but I've been on the Carneddau a few times. So by the sounds of it its pretty spread out - map to hand then!

    Re: Welsh 1000m peaks

Any veterans of this race out there?

I've just been planning my route. Between control G and pen-y-pass there's what looks like a large river (runs Llyn Lockwood - Llyn Cwmffynnon) that needs to be crossed.

Is it crossable, or is it worth a detour to the FB at the bootom of miners track?

    Thanks!

If you mean the river that runs from Llyn Cwmffynnon you cross almost at the ourtflow, normally easily waded across.

I've got one chance to recce for the Welsh 1000m race this Saturday (30th). Anyone like to suggest a section I should do? Only one car so needs to be out and back.

The start, but park up at the falls car park, by the bridge, recce the line through the Bera's and around to Foel Grach and if you have time the line right across to Carnedd Dafydd, you could also do the descent to Fynnon Llugwy then climb back up using the track at the far end and back over Carnedd Llewelyn.

Looking at the map, do you go around the Llyn clockwise or anti-clockwise? As I retired at Ogwen last year I didn't get that far. I know that you head towards the Llyn from the wall, but can't work out from which direction you approch PyP

Clockwise, around the LHS, you pick up a trod quite quickly, can be boggy though, worth a quick recce if you have time. The main thing is take the R turn at the broken down wall.
