Duddon Fell Race

Hard work, but a terrific day out.
My own efforts weren't helped by going over on my ankle before the descent to the 3 Shires, which made the following few hours even more painful.
The highlight for me me was being passed by Joss Naylor and Fly as they skipped down Wet Side Edge. I'll now always be proud that Joss' dog tried to drink my water. It's the closest I'll get to lakeland glory.

Yesterday, said I'm not doig any more longs.
Today, I'm wondering how on earth can I get round ennerdale next week?
Oh how we forget the pain.
Thanks for a well supported race, jelly babies, drinks etc all en route, good to see and very uplifting to be offered support like that.
Just been out to share the spirit and support fellow pain addicts on the Hendon Brook half Mara... very hot indeed, everyone looking good despite the heat on the tarmac.
Home in time for a BBQ and time to reflect on a great weekend.

What a fantastic part of the Lakes, and what a great race - organisation and atmosphere perfect.

I found it hot on the run out to Harter Fell, but after that there was enough breeze to avoid overheating too much. I couldn't go any faster up to Three Shires Stone, but it was very satisfying to be taking places from there onwards. I'm looking forward to seeing the detailed times and positions.

Thanks to whoever left me their gel, Mars and Kendal Mint Cake in a plastic bag on the descent from Harter Fell. They came in very handy later on.

Thanks also to Grimmer for the loan of the knives, and supply of tea bags on Friday night

OVERHEATED
Big style, too much Guinness on Friday night and fags!!!!!
Need to sort meself out. 24 mins slower than last year, but hey, what a good do, said 'Alright Joss' to Joss Naylor as he whistled his way down to 3 Shires, thought whistling may help me, sadly it didn't. Thanks to all the kind folk dotted about with jelly babies and water, very much appreciated.
The Master will have a good suntan after he waited for many hours to see me finish, oh and Amex is still alive and will to fight another day.
Well done to all that finished in that heat and to the people who didn't for whatever reason, i don't blame yer

Bloody hell, why didn't i think of this before...............it was the scenery that slowed me down, just had to pause in a few spots and take it all in, the scafells were clear and breathtaking and on the way back you could see the coast and Coniston water, stunning and inspiring veiws, if i'd have taken a camera, i'd still be out there now!!!!

felt good til I turned my ankle, twice, and then last third (Swirl How on) was pretty brutal all the way in. Mr Caw can sod off, up and down.

incredible day, but had to resort to some unusual headwear to stave off sunstroke ...

Super race - really enjoyed the route - technically a disaster as I had the worst cramp ever on Dow Crag and at one stage couldn't move for 10 minutes.
Thanks to the 2 Tod ladies for their assistance.

It had started to get me coming off Little Stand as I went knee deep in a bog, and then again as Joss sped past me as I climbed to Swirl How.
"I've only 7 hours to go" he said.

Thanks to the lady from Holmfirth who talked me in to carrying on up Caw so that at least I finished, even if it was 1 hour later than my ETA

I was half expecting Amex to catch me - hope your alright mate!

Marshalls were super, especially the one at Dow who helped me get mobile again.

I'll be back next year - better prepared.

What a fantastic day! That's 3 years on the trot, now, at Duddon it's been warm and sunny.

I'd like to blame the heat for me being 17 minutes slower than last year - but then Kat In The Hat informs me she was 40 minutes faster than last year. What a superb run, Kate, well done.

heh heh, reminds me, just after mosedale beck, in the shadow (if only) of Little Stand I was fiddling around with my bum bag not paying attention and disappeared up to my waist in a small patch of bog
