Carrying a drink is often not a key kit requirement regardless of whether its common sense or not. So you can perversely be running on sun blasted open fell for 3 to 5 hours carrying hats, gloves, waterproofs etc in your bum bag and be kit check perfect when you peg out with sun stroke, fainting and/or dehydration

Thats why I said that carrying waterproofs or not makes little difference to performance; the weight saving is negilible. Carrying or not carrying liquid though can make a big weight difference but of course wiley and/or local runners have drink support waiting for them around the route. This means that runners having to set out loaded with water are by default running at a big disadvantage. Having bases loaded around the race route is not cheating (in the same dastardly way as not carrying a waterproof ) but is miles miles more effective.

    Hi Stolly

I agree that water is, on can be just as important but this is going off the thread.

My point is if a RO says you must carry this kit then you must, if not you are cheating.

If he says carry water I will if not then it's up to you.

I'd be happy to see more checks, as I think that A doesn't carry the full kit because he thinks B doesn't, and B doesn't because he thinks A doesn't.

A runner was DQed for no kit from Rydel round last year: http://www.amblesidesports.co.uk/frame1.html.

At the start of a race when everyone is lined up (in nice neat rows) if each runner turned to their left and checked the person next to them for the required kit that wouldn't take long.

I think you'll find that Mr Taggart did carry the required equipment at the Great Whernside race mentioned....

He may not have worn his club vest because it was very warm, but if I'm not very much mistaken he carried a waterproof top as required.

Agree with that Ian. I think you should carry whatever the RO says, full stop. I just disagree with the cheating point (apart from maybe cheating yourself if the weather changes).

Not carrying a drink can give a huge competitive advantage over those having to carry it round but is clearly not cheating. Not carrying a waterproof is no competitive advantage at all. Its going against the spirit of the sport and what the RO has required you to carry but in terms of an edge, really it doesn't offer one.

Lloyd's a good lad and I still think Ian's being a touch harsh to be honest peejay

They check to see if your kit is tight? that must be a lot of groping. A (wo)man of taste
