Braver than me taking on 100, one day maybe.

Not looked in here for a while but just entered a bunch of LDWA events to prpepare for 3 maras in 3 days.

Wharfdale Marathon a week on Saturday, then 26m route of Osmotherley Phoenix, Marsden Moors Meander, Smugglers Trod, possibly In Pendles Shadow. Anybody got and words, good or bad on these?

Smugglers Trod is a great LDWA event. Look out for the marshal dressed as Captain Birdseye
    Poacher turned game-keeper

In Pendle's Shadow is pretty low key. I can't remember if walkers and runners set off together, I think they do and I can only remember around 40 people at the start so it would only have been a handful running it. I was on my own for the majority of it. There were certainly quite a few more runners the year before. Sandwiches, tea and homemade cakes at the finish.

There's quite a few tricky bits across fields where navigation is slow unless you know where you are going. I'm used to following route descriptions on this type of event, but this one is too sketchy. Mark up a map and you should be fine.

It's a good route over a variety of terrain.

Cheers for the insights Tup and Steve. Will keep an eye out for cap'n Birdseye, and at least will now know I'm not hallucinating.

Been meaning to post this, but Rhayader mountain trail has been cancelled - just in case anyone was thinking of turning up on the day.
    Lack of entries unfortunately.

That's a pity. I did it last year & thought it was pretty good - much wilder country than most trail events, some of it across featureless rough hill country with no paths in bad weather & poor visibility...

Mind you, I suppose that could have put some people off. I'd have entered this year but it clashed with the family holiday. I hope they try to get it running again next year.

We've always struggled to get entries for this event, don't know why because we put on a great course every year - and change it slightly each year to keep the interest up ..... or not. Also we need quite a few helpers and they are not forthcoming in numbers. Possibly it is simply too hard, remote and challenging for most people?
Anyway, we've given up the battle now, less than 10 entries 4 weeks before event was time for a decision .
I would love to put on a trail race there, incorporated the montrail/vasque series for 2 years and they really enjoyed it, and I have loads of potential routes up to 50 miles - but nobody to help organise!!

Have you thought about a non supported challenge event probably low key initially then if it works then build on it year on year.

    Just a thought
