    Re: Naughty lil achilles

    Hi MT

    Great stuff :-D

Good isnt it...they are so simple in design and concept.

I'm so pleased that it made a difference to you MT...I went out tonight and hit the trails through the forestry and gave my AT and my new shoes some serious hammer...running 4.7 miles and shaving over a minute a mile off my time..and no more sore than usual :-)

Are you doing the concentric and eccentric heel dips as well (probably as if not more beneficial for me than calf raises...but I do c'tric and e'tric riases as well just to be sure)

    Good luck and keep posting....

Sorry if I'm being dim - but what's the difference between calf raises and concentric heel raises? I'm plagued with AT at the moment and the dips seem to be helping a lot, but I'm not sure I'm doing them rigt( although I think I am) - also my achilles are swollen - does this go with the territory?
    Cheers

    Hi Grouse

Check out the website on earlier posts on this thread..I forget which is which...but one calf raise is done with legs straight...the other raise is done with knees bent..same for the heel dip on the hurty achilles

    Hope this helps

    Re: Naughty lil achilles

Been to physio earlier this evening - I'm doing all the right things re strengthening/ice etc and while also having the traditional ultrasound/electrotherapy treatments (which I will continue perhaps once a week for coming 3-4 weeks) have been advised that ok to continue running for up to 40mins 2/3 times a week as long as mostly on the flat - so the (partly rhetorical) question is - do I go for club run tomorrow night on Chevin?! A least there we start at the top and there are enough high level paths along the ridge top to make it sort of 'flat' and I can cut short at any stage.

    Great stuff MT

I went for a ten k last night on the forestry trails and gave my new Roclites (and me!!) some real hammer...ran it in 48m30s...well chuffed with 8m05s a mile given my AT..and the tendon strap is a big help for sure.

Sure, the AT is there this morning, but the exercises really do help, and if it's no worse than this, I can manage it; let me know how you get on with your club run as I am planning some ascent training ASAP (not easy to find hills in East Anglia tho'), and it will be interesting to hear your AT is after the hills.

    All the best

Is the concentric stretch just to stretch the tendon or to strengtrhen it as well?

    Hi Margarine

The concentric exercises are with the leg straight (for both calf raises and heel dips)

My AT knows it got some stick last night :-/ so a much slower potter tomorrow methinks

    Hope the link helps

    Achilles Research

E-mail that came my way today, thought I'd share with you all:

Caroline Alexander (PhD MSc MCSP) is a Research Physiotherapist and Clinical Specialist at Charring Cross hospital in Hammersmith.

She is looking for otherwise healthy volunteers with a painful achilles injury to assist with a study on the treatment of such injuries. *It takes no more than 45 minutes of your time at the Charring Cross hospital and having been put through the tests this morning, I can attest that it is pain free.

If you have such an injury and can spare the time then please contact Caroline directly: 020 8846 1337 or [email protected]

She should learn how to spell her hospital first.

    Well spotted

In her defence, the message came from someone else who'd been. Don't hold it against her.
