I'm with Derby Tup!! The final round of this year's Lakeland Lanequest League, on Tuesday evening, was based at Wilf's, in Staveley. After 2 hours of struggling around the hills and hollows of the Lythe and Winster Valleys, their renowned Veggie Chilli with Naan Bread and a Salad for £5.50 takes some beating.
The tea bar thing at Derwent Fairholmes. The tea and coffee are faultless, the cake generous in quantity and quality, the prices reasonable and the woman who runs it, stunning.
She also remembers regular customers and today let me jump the queue!
Only down side is it's not a cafe as such and you have to sit on a bench or a wall or something. Fine on a day like today. Hideous in winter when you've half an hour to wait for the bloody bus.
I may write to the National Park and ask them to consider extending the existing building a little to provide some shelter.

Absoutley Piglit - it saved me n Mr Piglets lives a couple of weeks back during a long hot run over from Derwent Edge - a quick refreashment stop before the climb back (and a nice sit down in the sun)
