...However, on the road a nice lady from Clayton gave me and a Settle runner a lift back. Unfortunately, I left my bumbag and its contents in her silver car.

I do not know her name but she had been 'bagging' her 198th Wainwright Seathwaite Fell and is a member of Clayton. Gary Wilkinson thinks that it is Paul Thompson's mum, but I am not sure.

I would appreciate any info from a Clayton runner (or anyone else) on the lady or bumbag because I currently have an excuse to avoid running in the rain (no waterproofs).

A PB for me at Borrowdale (26 seconds faster than last year ........ every little helps! )

The best I can say about Great Gable was saying hello to Jos Naylor at the bottom the rest was just hard graft !

Fantastic race, big thanks to Scoffer and all his helpers, loved every minute of it. Reccied it with the ponies a couple of weeks ago and proved invaluble.
Highlight of the day was being offered a peice of mars bars and a drink from Jos Naylor at Styhead, "Freshen your mouth with this lad" he said. Had to jog up Great Gable till i was out of view of the great man (then cough and wheeze behind a rock).
Bad luck to all those who got timed out, keep at it and give it another go

Got that familiar "d'oh" feeling to find myself heading down and east on Green Gable, the mist clearing momentarily to reveal Styhead Gill far below! Yet another reminder that A. you put the compass and map together just before you're lost rather than just after and B. the direction the compass needle is pointing in is most probably North whatever else your brain might be confabulating. Pity about the (several) poor buggers who had picked the wrong man to follow too :-) Double d'oh when I overcompensated and found myself on Moses Trod 15 minutes later. Aye well, happy enough with 4.47 under the circumstances. A superb day out - thanks to the organisers and especially to the nice man standing in Windy Gap dispensing water and hope. At least I've still got 3 Shires and Langdale left to maintain my dreams of Lakeland Classics glory* :-)

Wow, that was tough, real tough. First Borrowdale for me and longest race I've ever done too.
Was going great guns till bonked three-quarters of the way up Dale Head. Have heard people talk about this bonking lark before but kinda laughed it off, thought it was just people making up excuses for lack of fitness etc. I take it all back. I had to have a sit down on the final descent and take on board some food. I could do no more than shuffle all the way down. Note to self: eat more on long races.
The results show I lost almost 10 minutes and more than 15 places from the top of Dale Head to the finish! Still managed to get under 4 hours though, so pleased with that.

Apart from the late bonk, I thoroughly enjoyed the race. Thanks to the organisers and marshalls.

Anyone seen any photos (as long as they are not after Dale Head summit)?

Anybody know the story behind the trail of blood - lots of it - down the screes off Scafell Pike? I was expecting to find a body at the bottom.

I think I can shed some light on this one. I slipped at the top of the scree and cut my hand, only a little cut but it poured with blood for a short while. I didn't notice until I reached the corridor route and blood was dropping off my fingers.
I know that another fellow did a similar thing to a finger in a similar spot, we compared injuries in the first aid tent afterwards, and to be fair his injury was worse than mine.

I'd been going well (by my standards) until that point and had a torrid time of it after that, I absolutely hit the wall going up Gable, had to keep stopping while the rest of the field flooded past.

But netherless a great experience and very well organised event, thanks to the chap who offered me a bottle of water at the bottom of Gable.
I'll be back next year.

Anybody know the story behind the trail of blood - lots of it - down the screes off Scafell Pike? I was expecting to find a body at the bottom. And also, does anybody know if those little inov-8 gaiters work? I had to empty my shoes 4 times yesterday.

Could well be fellgazelle's and/or others, but the guy who came in 9th had spotted a good, fresh trail of the tasty red stuff which he followed down the screes.

I took a minor slip coming off Scafell Pike, cut my hand and nothing more. It bled quite well for a while and I was most impressed.

I hope it's all been washed off the rocks by now.

First Borrowdale for me too.

As with all the lakeland classics I have competed in to date, it was well organised and supported with a fantastic atmosphere. Special thanks to the marshalls, esp Scafell crew (you have my total respect).

After getting a bit lost on Gable I eventually latched onto a Borrowdale runner off the top who seemed to have all the right lines and sound navigation. Just piped him at the end only to find out it was Gavin Bland! Ah now that would make sense eh.

Dale head blew by legs away. I really felt for those who got timed out at Honister as this was a tough cut off.

Thanks to the Bowland mountain rescue who patched up my shin after.
Will be back for this one.
