    Re: Borrowdale 2009

Got that familiar "d'oh" feeling to find myself heading down and east on Green Gable, the mist clearing momentarily to reveal Styhead Gill far below! Yet another reminder that A. you put the compass and map together just before you're lost rather than just after and B. the direction the compass needle is pointing in is most probably North whatever else your brain might be confabulating. Pity about the (several) poor buggers who had picked the wrong man to follow too :-)

Oh dear Paulo....I'm pretty sure I was one of your followers. Don't pity the buggers who follow....it's their own bloody fault. You picked up the line off the top of Gable just as I was getting my map and compass out. Seemed like a man who knew where he was going.
Serves me right. I was followed the wrong way off Glaramara this year by a pissed off Northumberland runner. Lesson for him? - assume nothing when you see a purple vest....some of us are only there to make the pack feel better.
The detour cost a few minutes, but doesn't account for why I was 20 mins slower than last year. Need to think that one through.

Admit it, who looked up to see the fantastic views this race provides, and fell over?

I am trying to get hold of skennaugh anyone seen him since the race. His mobile is off but I guess there is no reception in borrowdale. I know he is staying in the lakes for the next week.

Thank you Forum folk for your help in retrieving my bumbag

The bumbag turned up in Hebden Bridge with Eileen Jones (Clayton). Thanks to the Clayton runners who assisted with the contact.

Also, well done Borrowdale organisers to make the whole thing work so well and well done Rob Jebb for his achievements this year and his speech.

I'll second that... I must have fallen over ten times, but only one really hurt!

The views were damn fine despite the pants weather forecast.

Well done on yer time there ML... I think you were finishing at about the same time as I was being timed out!

Be back next year... a score to settle!

Fair play to the organisers... great race, but I just wasn't quick enough.... but that was then!

LR, you could have written my report, other than I retired. I got to Styhead and looked up at Great Gable and decided enough was enough. I knew I would be timed out.

I thought I would struggle with the lack of mileage and fell runs I had managed to do ths year, but that I could at least manage Honister in 4.5 Hours.

    Definitely be back next year.
