George Cairns did the UTMB and raced yesterday and did a sub 2 hr - fantastic effort - I managed to convince Iain not to race yesterday given he has to do the 100km commonwealth in 2 weeks

it's just great to know you don't have to miss racing the Ben if you do the alps ultras!

As i put in nmy edit on the last post well up in both races. Im hoping to be up in the lakes to watch the commonwealths after the 3 shires depending on train times and prices back down to manchester on the sunday. I may watch that race. When is it?

Your ratios of time taken to go up compared to time to go down seam pretty much in line with most I would have thought. As your fitness improves so will your technique.... I think. If I am in the right ball park Rob would have taken approx 63 minutes up (although I know he is a good ascender so this could have been less) and 29 minutes down.
Youre probably right A.L. Maybe its a psychological problem I have with the ascents... as soon as my legs start to tire, I've give up and start enjoying the scenery..distractions eh?

    * Just to head some quick to anger forum member (we seem to have one or two nowadays) off at the pass, although the place was 'wasted' on me, I emailed the organiser mid week and hopefully somebody else managed to replace me at the starting line.
Thats what I did, though I went camping in France instead

Absolutely magic race, I'm so glad I did it. Probably one to do the once only mind (I'll read this thread next year to remind myself of that).

I was well within the time I'd set for myself, in sight of Achintee House and having a blast when suddenly I was face down in rocks. Took ages to get my leg moving again so I missed my time by a mile but who cares? One to remember for life.

Brilliant marshalls (there was something very very marvellous about seeing them at Red Burn on the way down) and thanks to the lovely chap (if you read this) who offered me some Mars Bar when he saw me broken down with just a mile to go.

    Well done all!

A good race and perfect conditions. Vest only required , def not that bad.
This is a real tough race and some cracking runs all round.

Fleeter and Myself decided to stick together from the off but I pushed the pace at the bottom a bit and my plan was to take it a bit steadier after the burn. Fleeter performed admirably and was right behind me at the burn. We helped each other up to the summit and to be fair he responded to lets say a few choice words.
As we left the summit we floored it taking god knows what risks but it was a beautiful descent and we passed a few.
Not bad for an under 20
Think Coach Clamp was proud of him after.
Nice to see the Pennine lot safely back. Dave S and Marvin having good runs.
    Lots of forumites. well done
Personally I was aiming for sub 1.50 and was dissapointed but I will be back next year. No falls apart from the mandatory odd slide down the grassy bit.
A great run by Emm who has raised all that money for those special places.Up and down the Ben in 2 1/2 hours ,. Nice one.

Fleeter when are you coming to Pennine ?
