I hate shopping - I'm currently living on peanut butter and toast because I can't be bothered to go!

Yep, close the shops or let the men go

Best time to go shopping is at 7.30pm when people have settled in for the night, i prefer Thursday nights, just before the weekend...

But weekends, i would rather live off toast than go weekend shopping.

Emmi i bet you would go weekend shopping if it was for shoes!!!

I think the Early Closing varied between towns.

It was partly to ensure that shop workers didn't end up with a 6 day week.

I think it was also a time when shop keepers went to the wholesalers.

It used to be compulsory - each local borough fixed their day - and then in the 1960s the individual shopkeepers could pick which half day they closed.

Derby was Wednesday and Nottingham was Thursday half-day when I was a lad. tbh I thought half-day closing was a thing of the past
