Well I'll still be there. At the start, even if I don't make it to the finish. My legs are still recovering from 45 miles across Wales the weekend before last, but I haven't got a good enough injury to escape the HP40. Round Rotherham has never caught my imagination though. my first foray into the long distance world are road shoes really a good choice for this or shall I stick with my flyroc's not sure how they'd feel after 40 mils!!!
It's the 40 miles you need to worry about: which shoes are most likely to stay comfortable for that long? The ground is mostly stony tracks and tarmac - you don't need to worry about grip much. Particularly if it stays dry. The moorland bit to Mam Tor you can run in anything. There's really only the climb south out of Castleton & 1 or 2 other little bits that could be slippy.
Depends how smooth you are on your feet. Some road shoes have reasonable chemical grip and deeper groves hence better mechanical grip.
This is a hard event on your poor feet. So even if your using trail shoes they should be supportive.
I'm hoping to swap shoes about half way from some comfortable trail shoes to comfortable road shoes.
Forecast is still pretty dry as well.
