I find that over long distances I start to get blisters from my Flyrocs, particularly when I get them wet. If you have very comfy road shoes, I would wear them.

I'll be out marking part of the course on Friday night. Have a good run everyone. Enjoy Chelmorton

It's only 3 miles of road with 100m of gradual ascent. And we'll have nearly finished by then anyway, with only the climb out of Deep Dale to worry about. Anyone remember "The Little Engine That Could"? All we have to do is to keep trotting, singing "I think I can I think I can..."

If anyone wants it I've got check point timings based on 8 hour pace for this. Or I can send you the spreadsheet and folks can run the calculations yourselves.

    Good luck for the weekend.

I'd like a copy of that - sounds useful!

Have pm'd you some contact details. Its in excel 2003 format. Only basic on 12 minute miles with notes on which bits are hilly and which aren't, I've taken my food requirements out - I didn't think you'd be interested Its aimed at 30 mins inside my last year time.

Off into the kitchen now to cook up the pasta for the carbo-loading. Veg stocks are down to carrots, onions & a cauliflower. We've already eaten all the courgettes. I think it'll have to be cauliflower & pasta in cheese sauce. And time to open a bottle of wine. Early I know, but I've got to be up at 5:20 to get to Buxton in time. Best of luck: see you in the park tomorrow. I'll be the one pulling out knackered halfway round (if last year's anything to go by).

Have had stinking cold all week but my sister-in-law is visiting so I reckon the suffering of running 40 miles will be less. See you all bright and early!

I can leave a few courgettes at the gate for you to pick up on the way round if you like. The trouble is that they're a bit big - more like marrows

Well that was hard work. Home again now & almost comatose, but I took an hour off my previous best time so I'm well chuffed with that. The weather was perfect, apart from being a bit too warm when the sun came out. Couldn't get any food down for the last 2 1/2 hours, & had to stop to retch a couple of times in the last few miles, & felt like one of the living dead for the last 12 miles. I've never been so glad to see the end of a race. Saw BritNick at the start looking pretty ill - he said he'd been off work. Brave to turn up at all I'd say - hope you got round OK Nick.

Your motivational idea for the road section worked for me, up to a point, kept mumbling 'I can do it, I can'
Really enjoyed my day out- great company all the way round, very well marshalled, lots of food and drink, loved the bit along the disused rail track, rush up edge and the deep dale, otherwise a bit too much road and very hard track for me. Really struggled with the short but steep descent before checkpoint 11- must have looked comical.
