No, I think you need to be a little bit more diplomatic... something along the lines of:

Please please please grow, before the night frost gets you and before that silly Dutch woman decides to carve a whole courgette family out of you...

Don't threaten them with the pot, that will be counter productive

    Re: todays courgettes

Molehill, what is the best and most humane way to pick a courgette?

Do you pinch it, yank it, snap it, twist it, bend it, use a pair of scissors or cruelly cut it off with a knife?

Do the courgetes scream out silently when this happens?

Do the tendrills try to resist your pilfering of the plants?

Are there any mantras you need to utter to placate the gods of the courgettes when slaughtering the plants?

Is there a favourite or best time of the day to carry out this drastic operation?

What happens if you accidently step on a baby courgette when you are walking through their patch of real estate? Can you repair the damaged courgette?

    A Courgettini’s Career Ambitions
One courgette says to a marrow,
    “Tomorrow
When I grow up, there’ll be no end
To the flavours I can be.
    Pick – Sweet or Savoury.
    Dress me up as a
    Nutty courgette loaf
    And I’ll impress.
    Let famous Flora matchmake me
In a cake, with lime curd.
    Tad controversial, I’ve heard.
Chop me, slice me, grate me,
Chutney me, pizza me, stirfry me,
Deep fry my bright, yellows flowers stuffed with cheese.
Or, I can always be a French ratatouille".

So many questions, but I shall attempt to answer them all in order, for this is a serious matter and you are obviously taking it seriously.

A razor sharp knife is the approved humane means of dispatch.

No, not if the knife is sharp enough.

Safest done after dark when they are asleep.

    Ommmmmmm.

    See above.

    I squash them and no.

    Hope the above helps
