Lightbulb 1st Headtorcher of the season

Yesterday evening I set off for my first solo head torch run of the Autumn in the hills outback. Just a fantastically serene and solitary experience being up in the hills again in the twilight and then deepening gloom. Beautiful and slightly spooky at the same time. Made me go all at one with nature and spiritual in fact and, had there been any trees on High Hill and up Attermire, I'd surely have hugged them

    Brilliant.

You've got a way with words that makes folk feel they're out there with you
Prefer to climb trees than hug them though

Watch out for monsters, and watch out for cattle.

I was walking back pissed up through the fields one night, seemed like a good idea at the time, crossed a fence and heard a thundering noise. I stopped in the pitch black for a few seconds as it drew closer, then all of a sudden a herd of about 15 beef cattle tore accross in front of me. They weren't spooked by me, just running round and round the edge of the field for some reason. If i'd have taken 5 more steps i'd have been trampled. I've also got a habit of walking back from leeds down the branch line three sheets to the wind too, there's no trains that late and it's the most direct route, the adventures of the drunken man.

I'm not scared of cows In fact my run went straight over a hill where a flaming great herd of them and one accompanying bull have had free range all summer. Even the bull is as placid as they come.

As for monsters, I saw a couple of bunnies but I was lucky and they chose not to attack me.
