got my beady eye on this route for some indeterminate time in the medium future
intend to recce Black Combe and Duddon during the next few months, so would be rude not to scout out the bottom end of the CT while I'm up there...
Scramble the rock face through the glare of morning sun — to run
Out of interest what is the fastest time this has been completed in? It says 11.16 on the Gofar website (up to Jan 2009) but I notice Aardverk has done it in 10.15. Anyone under 10 hours?
Personally I think it looks a great route, linking up lots of my favourite race routes and parts of the lakes.
I think we are officially the fastest but I know John Fleetwood has done it faster. 9 hrs +. He just hasn't told the powers that be.
Reg linking together race routes on the Cumbrian traverse: There's a few easy mistakes to be made! Apart from Broughton Mills onto Stickle (tricky ) it's White Maiden, not White Pike as per Duddon. Brown Pike's easy to miss too if you're used to the Duddon traverse from Dow Crag to White Pike!
Dale head traverse to High Spy is easily missed too .
I wasn't trying to imply it was easy but just that knowlege of other race routes will help with navigation. It's the inclusion of tops such as White Maiden, Brown Pike, Cold Pike and Maiden Moor that make the route so good. Although I am not sure about Coniston Old Man, I would rather see Brim Fell.
Going to have a pop at this late on next week after a rest from the OMM. Not after a time, just time on my feet and some time on my own in the hills - magic! Hope to get some settled weather for it and will take plenty of photos hopefully
